Vaidhyanathan Ramanathan, Ph. D.
Prof. Vaidhya
Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IISER, Pune
Education:
Bachelor of Chemistry, St. Xavier’s College, Tamil Nadu, India
Integrated MS and PhD, JNCASR, Bangalore, India
Post doctoral fellow, University of Liverpool, UK
Research Associate, University of Calgary, Canada
Research experience
Vaidhyanathan Ramanathan gained his PhD in Chemistry from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, under the supervision of Prof. C. N. R. Rao and Prof. S. Natarajan. His PhD aimed at investigating the synthesis and applications of open-framework metal carboxylates. He then joined the group of Prof. M. J. Rosseinsky at the University of Liverpool, where he investigated the magnetic properties of Co oxide-hydrides, and chiral metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Following this he worked as a Research Associate with Prof. George Shimizu investigating the proton conduction and gas capture applications of MOFs.
Teaching/Research
Dr. Vaidhyanathan Ramanathan is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER), Pune. He teaches inorganic chemistry and advanced materials chemistry.

His research interests include designing and developing porous solids for application in CO2 capture and in capture and separation of other industrially valuable gases. Other areas of interest pertain to developing chiral solids for heterogeneous enantio-separation and catalysis and developing hierarchy of inorganic-organic solids capable of exhibiting properties ranging from insulating to semi conducting to conducting. Such solids would be engineered for their potential application in fuel cells, solar cells and other areas of alternate energy.
